You are the new night auditor at The Bellwether Hotel.

Eleven at night. Rain on the awning. An elegant, ageing independent hotel with a long memory and a property management system that has never once been modern.

The job is ordinary: late arrivals, disputed minibar charges, split payments, room moves, no-shows, wake-up calls. Reconcile the day. Close the books at dawn.

On your first night, the system posts a charge that nobody can explain. Management calls it legacy noise from an old migration. The paperwork says otherwise.

A job first. A mystery second. Nobody tells you which is which.

What it isn't: jump scares, monsters, neon. The horror here is administrative: a line in the ledger that won't reconcile, a phone that rings at the wrong hour, a timestamp that doesn't add up.
